How to choose the right length
- 5 days — Cairo and Luxor. The Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum, then Karnak, Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings.
- 7 to 8 days — the classic route. Cairo, then a Nile cruise between Aswan and Luxor taking in Philae, Kom Ombo and Edfu.
- 10 to 11 days — the unhurried version. The same route with more time at each stop, and the option of the Red Sea or a Dahabiya sailing boat instead of a cruise ship.

Cruise ship or Dahabiya?
Most of these tours sail on a 5-star Nile cruise ship. Two of them use a Dahabiya instead — a traditional sailing boat with only a small number of cabins, moving under canvas sails between Esna and Aswan. It is quieter and more personal, and it stops at smaller sites such as El Kab and Edfu that larger ships pass by.

Yes. The guide, the vehicle and the pace are yours. On the tours that include a Nile cruise, the ship itself is shared, but your guided visits ashore remain private.

What is the best length for a first visit?
Eight days. It covers Cairo and the Nile between Aswan and Luxor without rushing, which is why most of the tours on this page are that length.
