Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Esna – Embarkation & Temple of Khnum Visit
Your journey begins in Esna, about 55 kilometers south of Luxor. On arrival, step aboard the Nour El Nil Dahabiya, get welcomed by the crew, and settle into your cabin. Once you are ready, head out on a brief walk through the town to the Temple of Khnum, a remarkable monument positioned around 9 meters below today’s street level. Continue through the lively local markets, where handmade textiles and traditional Egyptian items fill the stalls, then return to the boat as you start sailing south on the Nile.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: On board
Day 2: El Kab & Edfu – Hidden Tombs and the Temple of Horus
After breakfast on board, the dahabiya stops at El Kab, once the capital of Upper Egypt. Walk through a quiet fishing village on your way to see the temple of Nekhbet, then continue up to the hillside tombs of nobles, known for their beautifully preserved wall paintings. Later in the day, arrive at Edfu to visit the impressive Temple of Horus. Ride by horse-drawn carriage through the busy streets to reach this exceptionally well-preserved Greco-Roman temple. After the visit, return to the dahabiya and sail onward to a peaceful island for a restful night.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: On board (near a tranquil island)
Day 3: Nile Sailing & Desert Walk – Swim Stop Included
As the cruise continues, enjoy the slow rhythm of Nile sailing and the ever-changing scenery along the riverbanks. In the afternoon, the boat anchors beside a serene Nile island, giving you time to swim in the river or simply relax and take in the surroundings. If you would like to add a touch of exploration, set off on a short desert walk to view prehistoric rock inscriptions carved into scattered boulders, marking the early traces of an ancient desert route leading toward Libya.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: On board
Day 4: Gebel El Silsileh – Sandstone Quarries & Riverbank Picnic
Following breakfast, visit Gebel El Silsileh, a striking and less-visited highlight where the Nile narrows dramatically. Explore the small temple of Horemheb and walk through the sandstone quarries, historically used to cut blocks for major monuments such as Karnak and Luxor. After touring the site, sail on to a quiet stretch of riverbank. Here, enjoy an open-air lunch by the water and take the opportunity for a refreshing swim in the Nile.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: On board
Day 5: Kom Ombo Temple & Crocodile Museum
Wake up to beautiful river views as the dahabiya approaches Kom Ombo. Visit the distinctive double temple dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, set on a curve of the Nile that offers excellent photo opportunities. After exploring the temple, continue to the Crocodile Museum to see its collection of mummified crocodiles and other fascinating ancient objects. Later, return to the boat and continue sailing in the direction of Aswan.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: On board
Day 6: Disembarkation in Aswan
After breakfast, your Nour El Nil Dahabiya cruise concludes in Aswan. Disembark beside the Aswan Bridge, the government-designated docking point for all dahabiyas. Although this final stop is less scenic than earlier moorings, you still have a calm morning to enjoy the last moments on the river before your transfer to any location in Aswan.
